Our Team at Carolina Retina Institute (CRI) is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to improve the quality of life of our patients by restoring and maintaining their vision. Dr. Amit Kumar, MD is a board certified Ophthalmologist with extensive training in the Diseases of the Retina, Vitreous and Macula.
Dr. Kumar treats most eye conditions/ eye diseases at CRI. He Medically and Surgically treats eye diseases such as diabetes, dry eyes, glaucoma, retina detachments, cataracts and more. Elderly patients have the convenience of going to one doctor for their various eye problems. They have a peace of mind knowing that they will receive continued care and individualize attention at CRI.

Dr. Amit Kumar
Dr. Amit Kumar received his Bachelor’s and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Boston University as part of Seven Year Medical Program, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors. His internship was in Medicine and Surgery at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts.
Recently, Dr. Amit Kumar was awarded the “Best Eye Doctor” in Western Wake by Cary Magazine in Jan 2018 Issue. This is a great recognition for Dr. Kumar and his team! “Winning this recognition is an affirmation that our team at CRI has exceeded our patients’ expectations. We are humbled by the endless support of our patients”, says Dr. Kumar.
We remain at the forefront of knowledge and treatment of eye diseases through research and continuing education. We maintain a relationship with our patients’ other providers to maintain focus on the entire patient. Our goal at CRI is to ensure the patient has a positive experience from beginning of their appointment to the end.

He is kind, professional, super polite and always explains everything and addresses my questions and concerns honestly and completely. His staff is friendly and I am always greeted with a smile.
